INTRODUCTION

My client is building an earth sheltered home. The whole project is completely off-grid, using energy efficient technology to meet their daily needs and lifestyle. They are owner builders and have their own excavator. So they were able to save on excavation costs by using their own machine for the project.

Land Application

Low Pressure Effluent Distribution (LPED) was the chosen method for Land Application. It consisted of 6 x 25m trenches, which are sequentially dosed through an indexing valve. LPED trenches are a shallow trench depth system when compared to traditional Land Application Systems. This means the Evapotranspiration effect is increased. The byproduct of a WormWorx System is Nitrogen Phosphorous and Potassium (NPK), which is a nutrient rich food source. Due to the shallow depth of the trenches, the up-cycled resource becomes more available to the biodiversity, thus increasing the biological benefits through Transpiration. Perfect for fruit tree nourishment, or native plantations which are permissible in Land Application Areas.
